Sports Injury Prevention
in Bristol
The best time to address movement dysfunction is before it becomes an injury. We help athletes and active individuals build the foundation they need to train hard and stay healthy.
Why Injury Prevention Matters
For anyone who trains regularly, injury is one of the biggest obstacles standing between them and their goals. Time out of training, disrupted progress and the physical and mental toll of repeated injuries can be enormously frustrating, particularly when the same problems keep coming back.
Most sports injuries do not come out of nowhere. They are the result of movement dysfunctions, muscular imbalances and postural issues that have been building quietly beneath the surface for months or years. By the time pain appears, the problem has usually been present for a long time.
Addressing these issues proactively, before they reach the point of injury, is the smartest investment any athlete can make in their long-term performance. It all starts with understanding how your body actually moves.
What Makes Athletes Vulnerable to Injury
Every athlete has movement patterns that are more efficient than others. The problems arise when inefficient patterns are trained repeatedly under load. Over time the body compensates, certain muscles become overworked, others disengage entirely and the joints are placed under stresses they were not designed to absorb.
Left unaddressed, these patterns do not just increase injury risk. They also limit performance, reduce power output and slow recovery between sessions.
Common vulnerability factors we identify include:
01.
Pelvic imbalances that create uneven loading through the hips, knees and lower back
02.
A forward head posture and rounded shoulders that compromise upper body mechanics
03.
Restricted hip and thoracic mobility that forces compensatory movement elsewhere
04.
Weak stabilising muscles that leave key joints unsupported during dynamic movement
05.
Asymmetries in gait and running mechanics that accumulate stress on one side of the body
Our Approach
How We Help You Stay Injury-Free
At Bristol Biomechanics, we use Functional Patterns, a methodology built around the fundamental movements of the human body: standing, walking, running and throwing. These are the building blocks of athletic performance across every sport and discipline.
By assessing your posture and full movement cycle, we identify the specific vulnerabilities in your movement and build a programme designed to correct them before they become a problem.
Our approach includes:
01
Postural and Gait Assessment
We begin with a thorough analysis of your posture and movement to identify exactly where the inefficiencies and imbalances are occurring and where your injury risk is greatest.
02
Myofascial Release (MFR)
We teach you targeted self-massage techniques to release tight and restricted tissue, restore mobility and keep your body moving freely between training sessions.
03
Corrective Exercise
The most effective injury prevention exercises are not isolated movements. Using Functional Patterns corrective exercise, you will learn to engage your body as a connected and coordinated system, building the strength, stability and movement quality that keeps you performing at your best and reduces your risk of injury significantly.
04
Lifestyle and Wellbeing Support
We take a holistic approach covering nutrition, sleep quality, stress management and reducing systemic inflammation, all of which play a critical role in athletic resilience and long-term injury prevention.
Getting Started
What to Expect From Your First Session

What Our Clients Say
Sam: Restored Movement and Back to Sport
Sam was a semi-professional footballer experiencing hip and lower back pain that was directly affecting his performance on the pitch. A hip hike and pelvic rotation were creating significant spinal compression. He has now decompressed his spine, restored symmetry and is back performing at the level his sport demands.
Amador: Transformed Movement and Running Mechanics
Amador not only eliminated his hip and neck pain but also greatly improved his running mechanics. He achieved increased mobility, stability and strength simultaneously, with his stride length and overall movement completely transformed.
